			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With another holiday shopping season behind us, you’re likely well aware that shopping for the perfect gift can be an overwhelming challenge. Yahoo! Search wants to make shopping enjoyable and empower people with <a href="../../../../../../2010/11/24/get-ready-for-your-holiday-shopping/">useful information</a> to make an educated decision.  To better understand how search plays a role for some shoppers, we set out to answer the question: How are people who use search as part of their shopping process different from other shoppers?</p>
<p>Yahoo! partnered with marketing insight consultancy agency, AddedValue, to <a href="http://www.yadvertisingblog.com/blog/2010/12/10/how-to-target-hyper-engaged-shoppers/">survey 2,000 consumers</a>* around their online shopping habits, including their usage of search prior to making a purchase. We found that people who use search within the purchase process represent a passionate group of <em>hyper-engaged</em> shoppers.</p>
<p>In addition to being more knowledgeable, engaged and savvy shoppers, <em>searchers</em> used more online resources in their purchase process than their non-searching counterparts, such as:</p>
<ul>
<li>50% of searchers source customer reviews and ratings online</li>
<li>43% of searchers visit shopping comparison websites to make an informed decision</li>
<li>37% of searchers visit coupon websites to check daily deals</li>
<li>25% of searchers check out a brand’s social media channels like Twitter and Facebook</li>
<li>53% use their mobile devices to help them research a purchase</li>

<p>So what were searchers looking for this holiday season? Searches for <a href="http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGdSSPAiRNngkB4cNXNyoA;_ylc=X1MDMjc2NjY3OQRfcgMyBGFvAzEEZnIDbW96Mi15dGZmLXlmZjM1BGhvc3RwdmlkA19lbTRxa29HZFRDb1pOaElTM05QNEFVWjBZTS5jMDBrQW84QUFXY1EEbl9ncHMDMTAEbl92cHMDNARvcmlnaW4Dc3JwBHF1ZXJ5A3RvcCBkaWdpdGFsIGNhbWVyYXMEc2FvAzEEdnRlc3RpZANTTUUwMTg-?p=top+digital+cameras&amp;fr2=sb-top&amp;fr=moz2-ytff-yff35">top digital cameras</a> spiked 40% during the week prior to Christmas, while <a href="http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGdSTteyJNubwAx9VXNyoA;_ylc=X1MDMjc2NjY3OQRfcgMyBGFvAzEEZnIDeWZmMzVjBGhvc3RwdmlkA1RDUXd2VW9HZFRDaXd2bGdUTVk2NWdVbDJKRTJNazBpZS4wQUMxdXcEbl9ncHMDMTAEbl92cHMDMARvcmlnaW4Dc3JwBHF1ZXJ5A2d1Y2NpIGJhZwRzYW8DMQR2dGVzdGlkA0RGRDU-?p=gucci+bag&amp;fr2=sb-top&amp;fr=yff35c&amp;tmpl=DFD5">Gucci bag</a> surged up 75%, However, the most traction on Yahoo! Search during the final holiday shopping surge was around the iPad – searches on <a href="http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGdWfHAyRNLYEBURtXNyoA;_ylc=X1MDMjc2NjY3OQRfcgMyBGFvAzEEZnIDbW96Mi15dGZmLXlmZjM1BGhvc3RwdmlkAzQ4eGEyRW9HZFRDb1pOaElTM05QNEE0RDBZTS5jMDBrQThjQUJLUEMEbl9ncHMDMgRuX3ZwcwMwBG9yaWdpbgNzcnAEcXVlcnkDaXBhZCBjYXNlBHNhbwMzBHZ0ZXN0aWQDU01FMDE4?p=ipad+case&amp;fr2=sb-top&amp;fr=moz2-ytff-yff35">iPad cases</a> were up more than 50%, while searches on how to setup the popular gift experienced a 400% increase!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You may have noticed the launch of <a href="http://tech.yahoo.com/">Yahoo! Tech</a>, a new Yahoo! site that helps you choose and use technology. The site was developed with help of teams from across Yahoo! with expertise in personalization, community and of course search.  It includes original content from a group of new Yahoo! Tech advisors, licensed content, plus tons of user generated content like user reviews and user questions and answers from the community at <a href="http://answers.yahoo.com/">Yahoo! Answers</a>.</p>
<p>What you may not know is that Yahoo! Tech&#8217;s search is powered by the same <a href="http://developer.yahoo.com/shopping/index.html">shopping web services</a> available to anyone through the Yahoo! Developer Network. The shopping web services power Yahoo! Tech&#8217;s product search, search refinement, product information pages, and user reviews. We think this is a powerful example of what developers can do with our Shopping Web Services.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Yahoo! is now <a href="http://shopping.yahoo.com/syndication/">accepting applications</a> for a commercial version of our <a href="http://developer.yahoo.net/shopping/index.html">Shopping APIs</a> featuring product search, price comparison, ratings &#038; reviews, and shopping browse.  The program, which is now in limited beta, is similar to an affiliate model in that it enables websites to share in income generated from providing shopping search and other services powered by Yahoo! Shopping on their sites. Whether you are building a local shopping mash-up, a next generation social commerce destination, or you simply want to integrate shopping comparison features into your content site, this program is a first major step in providing you with tools to help you generate revenue.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s an example from one of our first paid syndication partners, <a href="http://www.family.com/">Family.com</a>:</p>

<p>During this initial beta phase, we&#8217;re accepting a small number of applicants with special consideration given to sites with high traffic volume and fresh, unique content.  But in the future, we plan to open this program to a larger audience.  In the meantime, anyone can use our shopping APIs on a non-commercial basis.</p>
<p>Speaking of that, we&#8217;re also unveiling some useful enhancements to the <a href="http://developer.yahoo.net/shopping/V2/productSearch.html">Product Search API</a> based on feedback from the developer community.  The latest version includes:</p>
<ul>
<li>Search narrowing options.  For example, if you query the API for &#8216;digital cameras&#8217; in electronics, now you&#8217;ll find not only the product results that match that search term, but also sub-category and attribute narrowing options such as brand, product line, and number of mega-pixels.</li>
<li>The ability to create a browse experience for your site based on Yahoo! Shopping&#8217;s comprehensive product hierarchy.</li>
<li>Various product image sizes that allow developers to choose between thumbnail size and large photos of the merchandise.</li>
</ul>
