Weather Report: Yahoo! Search Index Update
We'll be rolling out some changes to our crawling, indexing and ranking algorithms over the next few days, but expect the update will be completed soon. As you know, throughout this process you may see some ranking changes and page shuffling in the index.

Is there any published guides as to what goes into these algorithms?

Let see, if i go up or down.

The update had apparently begun. There appears to be less reliance on social sites in the SERPs than in the previous updates.
The concept of including social sites in the organics was sound from a 'wisdom of the crowds' perspective - but there was too much potential for spam. Sort of like the early days of link popularity.
Concept search is really the way to go.
Excite attempted it last decade with mixed results - but now the technology has advanced enough to try it at a more refined level

There also appears to be even more reliance on the search term in the URL as well from my observations. Any one else noticed this?

So people still care about Yahoo Search? Uhm...

Defining the stability of a url is heavy unfortunately. To this the algorithm of the searching engines demands a continuous change.

Well I have to say its good to see that Yahoo! is recognising 301 redirects at least.

Fortunately for the sites that I manage I usually see positive results from Yahoo!'s updates. Once in a while I'll see a drop, but it's rare!

I'm excited for the updated. Thanks for the warning!

"Is there any published guides as to what goes into these algorithms?"
LOL! Is that a serious question?

It's another joke.
Position 4th and 5th for one of my best keywords on other SEs are for Yahoo Answers, and I'm on page three.
I'm really sick tired of this social media crap.

I wonder if this also affects Yahoo Canada? And is this just an extension of the update that happened around April 21, 2008 (last time they issued a weather report).

As those of us who have been around Overture / Yahoo for many years, it was a great producer 8 years ago. Hope remains that they will one day return to their former effectiveness... We'll see...

Can you throw some light on what is specific about this update - what is valued more or less by Yahoo. This will give some credibility to the people still using Yahoo as their primary search engine.

I found this update to be very cool and amazing........

I have to say i didnt really notice any major changes on any of my sites. So nothing gained nothing lost i suppose.

My site also didn't change the position. Is it good or bad? Well, glass half full/empty question, I suppose.

When you update your algorithms, is it global or just local(USA)?

Very disappointed with Yahoo. Showing multiple pages from the same domain in the first results page, instead of showing more applicable websites. Don't get their algorithm.

My web site was ranking on page one for many key terms for Ocala Real Estate and now it's no where to be found. There is no reason for it. I rank on page one for Google for many terms.
