Weather Report: Yahoo! Search Update
Over the last few days, we've been rolling out some changes to our crawling, indexing and ranking algorithms. While we expect the update will be completed soon, as you know, throughout this process you may see some ranking changes and page shuffling in the index.
We appreciate your feedback on this, so please keep it coming.

Hopefully this will be a big improvement in term of rankings....

Glad to hear this ;)

I noticed the changes at 8am, fell back a few more pages. The older websites all moved back, new websites jumped in front. Perhaps a new URL and change of background color will bring us back up top...?
To save money the kids are getting candy coated potatoes this year :)
Thanks,
Happy Halloween Yahoo

The change is noticeable. Overall the SERPs appear somewhat more democratic. By this I mean that the algos are allowing smaller Websites to achieve slightly higher rankings for their keywords.
As usual, anchor text keywords are playing an enormous role, but there seems to be a balance in Yahoo's organic algos that allow for more of a mixture of sites in the top 30 SERPs.
This is good because it prevents the old established, well funded sites from holding a monopoly and allows for a good mixture.
Overall, the Organic SERPs have made a remarkable leap in relevancy over the past two years.
They are in some ways, superior to Google for some searches.
Keep up the good work - if only this effort was made several years ago, look at what might have developed by now... ;-)

I see a lot of crawling, but still the only pages in the index are pages that are gone for ages now.
Why can't you get a clean index together?

Thank you Yahoo, good night to Halloween 2007 ! See Ya

Threadwatch.org on your blogroll is no more, apparently you don't read it that much.

Thanks for yahoo update.
I got good rankings!

I am still not ranking number one for all of the keywords I would like to after this recent change, please continue to tweak algo. (just kidding)

Just wondering:
Links building doesn't work
Fresh daily content doesn't
White hat doesn't work
Black hat doesn't work
Do I need a "PANAMA" hat for some decent ranking?

Yahoo! should always update the algorithm in order to avoid spamdexing and guarantee a good releavancy !
Posted by: Référencement | November 1, 2007 12:33 AM
hmmm...seems Yahoo starts updating its index faster. Its a good sign. Hope it will make Yahoo more better.

My industry is loaded with the same spam results. Old URLS from like a year ago with just 1 link on them.
Posted by: Doug | November 1, 2007 07:15 AM
Wonder what you mean by "some changes". Any specifics? Thanks
Posted by: freelancer | November 1, 2007 10:39 AM
I like the relevancy and agree with some previous comments that there is a noticeable improvement on Search results over last 1-2 years.
I do wish yahoo would compete with google using their old Web Rank 0-10 score (ala pagerank competitor?) which I think would generate more "Buzz" in the webmaster world and help yahoo long term.
Good luck!

I am happy to see our new content that we added over the last 8 months is valued in this new update. A motivator for me!

I love how Yahoo won't let our sites rank #1 for our company name. You'd think they could at least get that right.
Posted by: Jon | November 1, 2007 01:10 PM
Just a note: We did make a major change to our /Image Files by adding an .httaccess file so bloggers and forums could no longer hot link our images.
Could this explain or loss in ranking?
Kind Regards,
Blog

Well, I for one am hoping that this is some sort of step towards having more than one search engine out there. It is, after all, a VERY big Web out there. I *use* Yahoo! Search often, but I think I may be in the minority.

1000% improvement. Welcome back, Yahoo.
Posted by: SFWriter777 | November 2, 2007 11:15 AM
The improvement on Yahoo! search results is noticeable. I'd say, the only problem is now we are founding Wikipedia pages all around. Just like on your main competitor... :-(

Not such a good update for me. How often does Yahoo update their algo?
Posted by: Pauline Gledhill | November 3, 2007 03:53 AM
The Xanga spam needs to be taken care of. It's all over, especially for music and insurance keywords. For example: cheap car insurance, home insurance, online home insurance, cheap auto insurance and many more all created by the same guy.
Posted by: John | November 3, 2007 08:05 PM
Too much spam in SERPs. Top 10 is ok. But what's after. Every new up brings new spam in SERPs. And than it slowly disappears... till the next up. Do something.
And don't delete my comment like before, cause I really wish you well.
