Growing Search Suggestions...
Over the past several months, Yahoo! has been rolling out Search Suggestions to users across Firefox browsers (aka "chrome search" for the geeks among us), Yahoo! Toolbar for Firefox and, most recently, Yahoo.com.
And today, we're expanding Search Suggestions to Yahoo! Toolbar for Internet Explorer. Now, all new downloads include the same ease of use and quick search experience right from the Y! Toolbar for IE.

Sensing a pattern? We really believe that Search Suggestions improves your search experience. By automatically giving you suggestions based on what you've typed (as you're typing), you can get to what you're looking for faster.
We're driving to push it out to all your favorite search boxes. So, if you haven't tried it yet, give it a go and let us know how it's working for you in the comments below. And, as always, if you'd like to bypass the suggestions altogether, you can easily turn it off in Yahoo! Toolbar by going to the menu below the suggestions or in "Toolbar Options" under Settings.

People savy enough to install and use a toolbar - may not need search suggestions.
Suggestions might only be efficient for the novice or casual surfer

I think the search suggestion feature is great! You are able to spell search terms correctly, and easily find what you are looking for.

Cool !
In this way Yahoo! would be more friendly with Iexplorer users !

Hello:
It appears that Yahoo is placing top priority to competing with other search engines to see who would have more features in its tool bars.
I host most of my website with Yahoo, use Yahoo search engines now and then and also have done pay per click marketing with Yahoo.
In my judgment, Yahoo is the best search engine, the best internet company and the most friendly company in the world.
My advice to them is to concentrate in knowing what their advertisers want and work more to improve delivering them compentely.
The advertisers and website hosting customers generate income for Yahoo.
These are the clients who Yahoo should be working hard to help.
And what do they want?
They want their websites to be indexed fast and ranked so they can get tons of traffics and make a lot of sales so they can pay more money to Yahoo to advertise.
Mr. Terry Semel, are you listening to me?
How about you Mr. Jerry Yang?
And Mr. Filo?
Stop misplacing your priorities, instead, begin to find out what your paying customers want and work to service them.
Even though I highly recommend Yahoo in every way more than the other Search engines, but there is an important issue that Yahoo must fix.
Sometimes, when your automated payment for your web hosting service do not go through and you phone Yahoo customer service to make the payment manually over the phone, Yahoo customer service gives you hell.
They begin by asking you to tell them your Yahoo Id, then your zip code, the 4 digits of your credit card, then the last 8 digits of your credit card, then your e-mail address, then your date of birth.
If you cannot provide them with all of this personal information or if you make a mistake in any of them, they would refuse to help you manually charge your credit card (already in your account!) to pay for the web hosting service.
I do understand that it is important for them to ask for certain personal information to verify who the customer is.
But, I believe they are simply asking and demanding too much information just to help you make a payment to them!
I mean, you phoned them to pay them, NOT to get a loan from them, right?
So why subject the customer to a barrage of questions?
Why should they give their customers all these hassles?
One or two personal information should be enough to identify the customer and help him/her manually make a payment.
The credit card is already in the customer’s yahoo billing account, so what is all this fuss about?
And the irony of it is that when the con man or criminal or hacker phones them, they would easily outwit them and get any type of information they need.
And by the way, a professional con man or hacker will not be calling them to gain access to any account that way!
They are professionals and know all the hacking tricks they use to procure information.
So all these melodramatic questioning and hassles are really pointless.
And how about having an alternative payment arrangement?
You should have a way that the customer can manually make this payment him/herself, and avoid phoning yahoo customer service and be subjected to this Nazi type of interrogation.
For example, when I miss my payment with Hostgator.com, I simply log into my account and make the payment manually using a credit card or Paypal.
Furthermore, you should have a way for the customer to pay for as many months as he/she wishes.
(For now, one can only pay you monthly!)
Why is that if I want to pay for 1 or 2 yrs that I cannot do that?
Is it because your company is already too rich?
So, yahoo, why is it that you don’t have Paypal payment?
These are what you should be doing to improve your company instead of dreaming to merge with other companies who will sully your sterling reputation and debase your stock and company’s image.
Why are you still operating with 1998 system?
When will you overhaul and update you technologies and bring them up to date to 2007?
So, Mr. Semel, Mr. Jerry Yang, and Mr. Filo, I hope you will look into this, modernize your billing software, simplify the payment system, add Paypal payment and avoid harassing your customers with a gazillion questions when they phone your customer service to pay for any of your services.
I would like to continue hosting with Yahoo and using its other great services, but I don't want to be harassed and bombarded with idiotic questions when I phone to make a payment, otherwise I will cancel all my hosting accounts and go elsewhere., and take all my associates who I have referred to yahoo with me.
There are many other great hosting companies and they don't bombard you with unnecessary personal questions when you call them to make a payment.
I have already cancelled some of my hosting accounts with you and if you don't change this rotten and annoying situation, I would be compelled to cancel the remaining ones and recommend that everybody else in the world should also cancel.
Hope this feedback will wake you up to take the right action to fix this situation.

Hi,
Great feature!
But the function appears to be available for only English version.
I'm a Japanese.
I'm sorry I can't use Search Suggestions on my Japanese Yahoo! Toolbar at the moment.

Very cool feature. However I notice there is a little conflict between this feature and the "auto complete" option of Internet Explorer. For a person who repeatedly look for a very specific technical term, or for the "site:" command, the "auto complete" feature seems to be a bit more convenient.

Hi...can you tell me if Yahoo Search Suggestions repeats back to me new info that are as a result of my keystroke or things i or someone using my computer already searched for?

I think the search suggestion feature is great! You are able to spell search terms correctly, and easily find what you are looking for.

I like the idea. I'd use google toolbar on one browser and yahoo on another. This way there's some competition :)

Hi how about a clickable button on the front page to turn this feature on and off instantly?

Sorry, but I don't like this. 99.99% I know what I want to search for, and I don't need a spell check to help me.

It is like the automatic system in sending SMS messages on your mobile phone. You type M, then E, and the phone automatically shows 'Meant', when all you really want to write is 'Meet'. The results just do not match what it is that you are really searching for. Sorry Yahoo, I love most of the things you do, but not this.

This is quite handy, but the thing I prefer the best is that you only need 1 mouse click when using Yahoo. You don't need to double click, which can be quite annoying.

I'm not sure that the results given are that helpful. Take the example above, what is "apple vacation"?
Posted by: Matt Harrison | January 30, 2008 05:08 AM
Perhaps and apple vacation is a holiday on or near to an orchard!
