Weather Report: Yahoo! Search Update
We rolled out some changes to our index and ranking algorithm last night. So, as you know, throughout this process you may see some changes in ranking as well as some shuffling of the pages included in the index. This update should be complete very soon.
Thanks for keeping the feedback coming.

The search results I'm seeing right now are utter mayhem. A search for "online games" brings entry after entry of parasite hosting spam.
Posted by: Richard Flonk | June 6, 2007 08:45 AM
There is quite an increase in sub domain spam.

You keep coming with algo updates, which shows different results each time ... does that mean what you were doing before was utterly wrong... a little bit of difference in results, I would understand but I am seeing absolutely different results ...

Did you roll back this change? It seems you started around 12 noon EST to rollback this change.

I noticed the update this morning and now (this afternoon) I see it looks like there never was an update? What happened to the update? Anyone have any ideas?
Posted by: Blake | June 6, 2007 10:47 AM
I wish you'd update Yahoo! Next. According to that, you haven't been working on anything new since May 2006.
Posted by: Matt Cox | June 6, 2007 10:55 AM
Authority, Sub-Domain Sites in many cases are just Spam?
Many years ago we started a site based on one Idea, we now have 1000s of different products in the event sales climate changed (fad).
Every time we add a non related product to the original Idea we move further back in rankings, should we be buying new URL's for every Idea.
Some companies duplicate their services selling the same products (Shopping Sites), same Idea with multiple URL's with multiple Add Campaigns,
Search Engine's add new products and services to your original Idea, yet are not reprimanded for expanding?
Are ethics different for apples and oranges?

Can someone from Yahoo comment on this??

I can't log into yahoo. As soon as I hit "sign in" on yahoo mail, music, groups... whatever, I get the "The page cannot be displayed" error. At least for the last hour since 3pm june 06, 2007. I can find no news about it. Could this 'search update' have anything to do with it?
Posted by: Michael Baribeau | June 6, 2007 12:16 PM
My site is back to position 40 where it was yesterday.
Posted by: Mike | June 6, 2007 02:53 PM
I am seeing lot of changes but the search algo seems to be same the previous 2 months ago.

I'm seeing more duplicate url at the 1st-3rd pages on some of my queries. Besides that everything else is well updated.

i wants to just know if yahoo is very fast updating with weather then how come it become slow and slow day by day in search engine? Any idea, does yahoo is making any changes in searching criteria.

It is good to know there is progress. Some changes to the index and ranking algorithm is a good prove. Keep going!

I noticed around 11am EST that the results changed, but now they look to be rolled backed to the same positions prior to the "update".
One of my keywords I track "pool fencing" has 4 of the top 10 results from New Zeland and Australia. I am viewing my results in Florida, USA! Nice relevancy!

Mine went up actually. Thanks for the heads up!

Saw the change, it looked pretty good. But now the results in my category are the exact same as before the update? What happened to the update? Does anyone from Yahoo ever comment back on this blog?
Posted by: Blake | June 7, 2007 06:40 AM
When will yahoo be done with the updates. My email won't work
Posted by: Lisa | June 7, 2007 09:17 AM
WHERE IS THE UPDATE, WHY DID YOU RETURN TO THE OLD OUTDATED RESULTS, WE WANT THE UPDATE ! YOU DID VERY WELL AND NOW YOU ROLLED BACK ?
MOVING FORWARD IS IMPORTENT - NOT GOING BACKWARD
YOUR NEW SET OF RESULTS WAS GREAT FOR THE USER EXPERIENCE! WHY GOING BACK? LEAVE IT FOR A FEW DAYS WITH THE NEW RESULTS AND YOU WILL SEE HOW PEOPLE START USING YOUR SEARCH INSTEAD OF THE OTHERS. NEW AND FRESH CONTENT IS KING !

You said it Jason!
Posted by: Blake | June 7, 2007 10:55 AM
Not bad indeed. It seems it is better than before.
Posted by: memi | June 8, 2007 07:48 AM
Two of our client's sites returned to the top-10 (after about a 6 month absense!?) after this update ... for about 10 hours. Then, as someone else mentioned above .... completely gone from the index??
What's up????

I cant wait to see some results. I cant seem to have any of my websites rank well in ur serps. I think you guys go entierly on how many backlinks a website has?...
Posted by: shopautodotca seocontest | June 9, 2007 12:53 AM
The frustrating world of search engines. Make a change and alter it back after a few hours!! WHen will the real update happen?
Posted by: Paul | June 9, 2007 08:29 AM
Exactly. Mr Garg, you made a grand announcement, so how about explaining the pullback?
Posted by: Piedmont | June 9, 2007 08:32 AM
Just a thought, why not pick a couple ranking algorithms you like and rotate them? This way your results continue to change and more hard working "White Hat" webmasters get a little play in the results.

Hi All,
Can you please tell me that does Yahoo consider links in Comments as valid inlinks and is it helpful in improving the search engine ranking of the pages?
I would be really grateful if you could answer/email me.
Thanks in advance

What about a product or syntax that allows people to search inside code (HTML, JS, etc) of pages already crawled in database?
I think this is not bad since people will be able to see the same code as "View Source" in browser.
advantages:
- people that develop public solutions could track the sites that are using it
- people can track commercial programming solutions that are being ripped off
- real world examples of programming techniques

Yahoo results are getting better how about a simple search page like google we could search from ie yahoosearch.com so we don't have to wait for the large page to load
Posted by: Shopautodotca seocontest | June 11, 2007 12:56 PM
I decided to write once I noticed that on some keywords the rank is higher than before, while on others is lower than before. And surely others have seen this as well. Obviously, we'd like to put the lower results back upwards - and hard work must be done.
My question is - and hopefully someone can give a good answer, is the implementation over and we can see how to improve on the SEO "war" or should we wait another couple of weeks?

Does this post help my ranking?
Posted by: seth | July 10, 2007 12:55 PM
Not bad, better style them before.

I am glad to post my views and points in this blog, but I must say that webmaster of this blog has done a very great job to make his blog more informative and more discussable but unfortunately everthing is same here that more than 80% in this and other blogs post their comments for making spam!!!, so i will really all this spam links to google band tool, because webmaster makes blogs for making discuss and for sloving each other problems. thanks http://www.gordoniihoodia.net
