Yahoo! Search Blog Gets a Facelift

After two and half years, the Yahoo! Search Blog team thought it was time for a little pick-me-up, so we went under the html knife and added a couple of new features to help you navigate through the site better. Okay, so it's not exactly a traditional facelift, but it's a refresh and we hope you like it. A couple new things we added include:  MyBlogLog, one-click links to save a post to Yahoo! Bookmarks, del.icio.us and digg, a new archive dropdown to quickly get to past posts and category search.

We'd love to know what you think, both about the design and how we can improve the blog to be more interesting, more informative, and more useful to you.

Your entry text specifies a 11 point font inline, which could override some readers' personal preferences and settings both in their browser and feed aggregator. You're also using in-line CSS to make every link purple, another tradeoff in your markup size and the preferences of others. Likely your composition tool creating that markup for you but it's generating pretty ugly markup.

Your RSS feed's links are pointing to "p7.hostingprod.com/@www.ysearchblog.com", an ugly URL that hopefully is just a DNS propagation hack.

Thanks Niall. You're right - we did have some DNS propagation issues. Thanks also for your comments on the HTML structure. We're looking into making some changes.

Love the new look, really nice!

I got the same thing Niall did...

Very clean and uncluttered. I like the gradient box on Recent Posts section. Well done.

Very fast loading and There is plenty of whitespace (which is good), but add a bit of warmth with a very very pale pastel

Also, the fushia color headings (while pretty) seems a bit more geared towards a multimedia site. Perhaps a subtle blueish shading would blend in with the mood of the blog

The dark gray font color is easy on the eyes - but a change with various dark font colors for different topics would be attractive and invigorating

Why not include short bio info on the bloggers who create new topics - to give some perspective of their areas of expertise?

MyBlogLog is an EXCELLENT addition - there should be a longer visitor roll - perhaps 25 vistitors

Also please make public and share your traffic stats - many Technorati Top Bloggers as well as top SEO bloggers have been doing this - THERE IS Absolutely NO REASON to hide them! Sitemeter is a very popular and excellent choice

* * * * * * * * * * ***

BTW:
Also, it is so-o superb that the hyperlinks to usernames have returned and without redirects - but please remove the NOFOLLOW tag in them.

There is no reason NOT to share youe link love with the intelligent readers who post.

A pure link would help others get a bit more pagerank - and would be most pleasing.

This is a really very small price to pay for the many many good ideas that could potentially generate billions of dollars in revenue for Yahoo. A very small price.

SearchEnginesWeb, literally is bursting with tons of great ideas just begging to be posted - and has helped Yahoo as WELL AS GOOGLE (LOL:) in the recent past in previous posts.

Let SearchEnginesWeb help you. Won't you please let SearchEnginesWeb help you.

my only comment is to fix your RSS feed. I'm getting the same post multiple times in my feed reader.

AFAIM, I like it very much. It's clean and very reflective of Yahoo! Good job

It scales so nicely! This design calls for admiration! I have never seen a Website scale this nicely. Well done!

It looks good too! ;)

By the way: consider adding max-width to the total width.

Everything looks great, and really enjoyed seeing the new features.

Looks great. Nice facelift.

Same as Brian Harris comment, you should fix the RSS feed. Other than that this blog looks great, very clean I like it... especially the new mybloglog widget. Nice to see myself on the sidebar LOL...

Cleaner layout, good typeface selection. Definitely better looking than the previous version.

Great changes. It is so much easier on the eyes.

I agree, much easier to read. Great job with it.

Glad you adopted MyBlogLog. I recently added it to my blog and it is facinating to see who is actually visiting your site rather that reading a dry analytics report after the fact. I discovered some great bloggers that way.

Keep up the improvements.

Well I would love to use the Yahoo toolbar, but every time I try to download and install it Norton Internet Security blocks it with a message that it has detected and removed something called "VirusBurst." I looked it up. It's trojan horse program. Why isn't Yahoo talking to Symantec about this false positive, and why is Yahoo's Help service so clueless about a problem this serious? When I emailed them all I got back was an automated reply that wasn't even close to being relevant.

I like the improvements. Now it's even more easy to use. Thanks!

I like it. Easy to read and navigate, and its not cluttered with colors. Good Job!

very nice. Thanks.

Keep up the good work!

This is what we have been waiting for. Thanks.

Very useful and cool features!

These help out big time! Thanks and keep up the good work.
