Site Explorer Reminder

With the completion of algorithmic transition to Bing, Yahoo! Search has merged Site Explorer into Bing Webmaster Tools. Webmasters should now be using the Bing Webmaster Tools to ensure that their websites continue to get high quality organic search traffic from Bing and Yahoo!. Site Explorer services will not be available from November 21, 2011.

I heard this was going to happen, and now is the time. What a pity. So many other tools and sites providing information based on this data, will also become useless with YSE closing. Many thanks for providing it for all these years for free. – Pity its all about the money, but unfortunately its only by the competitors closing YSE off that SEO’s will be driven to using paid-for resources, which is yet another nail in the coffin for small sites which cannot afford to pay, and their positions in SERPs may suffer as a consequence. Backlink knowledge is only a part of the whole SEO equation, but its a very useful part.

My seo toolbar is now out of date and no longer serving up the backlink checker that I so relied upon for these years. What’s next?

To anyone reading these comments maybe Open Site Explorer could be the next step to use unless Bing provides an excellent service.

@TigerSEO

Though I’ll miss yahoo site explorer, I quite agree with you – the seo place is overcrowded these days. Now that we have only paid options like spyglass and majestic left – though i think seo spyglass has a free version – there’ll be fewer inexperienced SEOs :D

It will be missed for sure but moving forward we need to look for viable substitutes – third party tools and services that still show us backlinks but do so for free or inexpensively – blekko search engine is not bad and free backlink source, so is ice rocket, and seo spyglass tool, freeware and paid versions, are just some of the ways for finding links in the post-yse era

It will further separate “professional” SEO people (with money to spend) frm those many smaller agencies or webmasters just interesetd in gaining some impression on the competetive situation

They have killed one of the best free online tool who give à correct backlinks list. The bad new (for them) is that this tool is mostly used by people who try to disturb the google ranking. The good new is that now google going to be better than before !

I’m hoping Bing becomes as good and even better than Yahoo’s tool was.
So far it looks very promising, just need to get more data transfered.
