Weather Report: Yahoo! Search Index Update

Over the next few days, we’ll be rolling out some changes to our crawling, indexing and ranking algorithms. While we expect the update will be completed soon, as you know, throughout this process you may see some ranking changes and page shuffling in the index.

Also, some of you pointed out some issues with Deleting URLs in Site Explorer a few days ago. This has now been addressed and your Deletes should continue to work on Site Explorer.

To share your thoughts on this with other Yahoo! Search users, please visit the Site Explorer Suggestion Board.

Hi Guys,

My URL is gone from site explorer. I do a search on Y! and get url does not exist yet site map as been processed, banklinks reported (over 24,000) and search submite basis shows my 5 urls to be “active” and in green status. I have sent a post the site explorer board with no answer yet.

Please let me know if you need anything else,

Thanks,

Frank Pipolo

………………
There has been the beginnings of an update over the past week or so.

It appears that social bookmarking sites have become more dominant in the organic SERPs.

This is both good and bad.

Good in the sense that it is giving Yahoo its own personality and making it more of a distinct search engine. It is also allowing for a more democratic experience, in theory.

Bad in the sense that it is much easier for spam listings to show up in dominant spots on the SERPs. For some search terms, there are now sometimes 4 useless results on page one; this has not happened in Yahoo in several years.

While it is good that many of the giant corporations and huge sites are not dominating the SERPs like they are in Google – the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction until the inclusion of the social site pages in the search results are more refined so that only the most relevant ones that enhance the results are displayed

That would be interesting to get a bit into the mind of Yahoo and see how you decide on changing the algorithms – what factors truly come into play. Thanks for the update!

It appears that your algorithm changes has already affected some of our monitored keywords. Overall, I think this is a change in the right direction.

If what I’m seeing today are the new results, this is the worst update I’ve seen in two years.

It will take time to sort out, but as people learn and adapt Yahoo will continue to adapt as well. This is evolution of technology.

Once again another update has come and gone and my site has not ranked AT ALL. I am spidered daily too! I really need some help finding out about Yahoo’s sandbox. My site ranks in the top 10 for several words/phrases on other SEs. I optimize, I update, I have good link partners… This is very disappointing. On top of all that I own Yahoo stock. :/
