The fastest way to disable those annoying and distracting features in Firefox is Tools, Options, Turn off Javascript. You could probably do the same for Google, Bing and the rest. Or you can spend hours searching the Internet for addons, blocking script, changing about:config. Now if I had known that before I wouldn’t have wasted all that time in modifications…

finally blocked search assist and suggest in both Google and Yahoo while using Altavista in the meantime. Now there’s this new drop down box in Yahoo. I don’t save cookies, LSOs and block tracking not just for privacy but to speed up searches for information as an author. Anything that distracts from specific searches wastes time and inhibits creativity. How about making these “Internet for Dummies” features as permanent opt in/out instead of “We think you, the user, are complete idiots who can’t be trusted to find your way out of a paper bag” default that requires modifying preferences with each opening of the search engine? I hate having to modify some other person’s idea every several months of what’s good for me. I just finished modifying Chrome’s mess, had Yahoo just the way I wanted it (Search assist/suggest disabled permanently) and now with Search Direct I have to start all over again?…Not a happy camper.

I love the search suggest, speeds up my querying. To the person above it is a simple matter to find out how to permanently disable it, how about you yahoo it.
