Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0 and oneSearch Expand Mobile Search Experience
As you may have heard already, this week our Connected Life team has taken Go for Mobile 2.0 GA in the US and further expanded Yahoo! oneSearch into Asia with six new carrier partnerships.
Now ready for primetime, the new version of Yahoo! Go 2.0 and the access to localized beta versions in 13 countries will be available today, expanding to more than 200 different mobile phones in the U.S. by the end of July and more than 400 by end of year. Helping to broaden the adoption of the mobile Internet, the team has included a few new enhancements in this version, including increased speed, better e-mail, more powerful maps, easier navigation and better mobile search results.

Further expanding the mobile search experience is the recent development coming out of Yahoo! oneSearch this week. Yahoo! has now signed partnership agreements with six major mobile operators across Asia to distribute oneSearch, reaching nearly 100 million new subscribers. Since its beta launch in January and Asia launch in May, we’ve listened to all the great feedback from our users and have constantly worked to improve performance, make navigation easier and increase local relevance — all with the goal of giving consumers better search results and instant answers.
Dave Ko, VP and GM of Yahoo!’s Connected Life division in Asia, just announced these partnerships and the rollout of the new version of Go 2.0 at CommunicAsia 2007 in Singapore. You can take a look at his conference recap and the details of the recent oneSearch expansion here.

Congratulations for it. However, it would be great to also have Yahoo! Go 2.0 for Windows Mobile 5 pocket pc edition phones. Treo’s and HTC phones have very good reach among corporate users after blackberry. And, most of them also use unlimited data plan (unlike most of moto razr users). Unfortunately, avid yahoo fans like me have to use google maps for mobile and live search for mobile just because yahoo does not have a mobile map application outside Y!Go and Y! Go 2.0 doesn’t work with my phone.
Yes, agreed with Nirav. When you first announced 2.0 early this year, the Go download site said the Windows version would be available in April. April came and went, then the site updated to “Coming soon.” Now it simply says, “It’s not available yet.” Managing expectations for the power users is not going so well — certainly not “primetime,” Paul.
Not available for Windows Mobiles Smartphone. :(
Hurry, plz.
Similar comments here as well. I have been tracking the 2.0 version since beta version but it does not seem to make the WM5 available since January. Very disappointed.
I too really hope that Yahoo! Go 2.0 will be available for Windows Mobile 5 very soon.
I agree with the windows mobile comments above. The Go team have made a really bad job of managing expectations, I too remember seeing that it would be available in April. Of course Yahoo GO desktop was announced a very long time ago and said ‘coming soon’ for about 2 years and then finally disappeared.
Come on guys – Yahoo has some great products but I am being pushed to Google and Windows Live more and more because you just aren’t delivering on time.
I hope in the Asian endeavorers you don’t go the way of Google. I am English but based in Bangkok Thailand and when I do a search on Google it always defaults to Thai and is difficult to revert to English also all the forms are Thai with no transfer to English. Very frustrating.
yeah
Yahoo Go is really a wonderful thing. I’ve used 1.0 and made most out of my phone. But the fact that the newer 2.0 is not available for my HTC device is quiet disappointing. I hope to get it soon.
Users expect yahoo to at least comment on user expectations whether they are going to release 2.0 version for WM5 or not. Perhaps it is not important to release it for WM5 now as most of the users have already switched to google and live search. Good way to beat google in mobile race. ;)
Yeah, VERY disappointed that WM5 phones have not been a push to get released!
I actually read this hoping to see if there are going to be any new developments on this tool – based on the comments, it looks like I’ll be waiting a long time =(
Just so you folks at Yahoo know – MS Live Search just started doing movie times. Unless you step up soon, you’re going to get beat to market on a product you announced months upon months ago.
It is very disappointing to see that Yahoo! Go 2.0 is not yet released for WM5. Also, Yahoo is doing false ads on its website. It says “We found 21 AT&T phones that work with Yahoo! Go”. However, only 11 are currently supported. Others are on “Coming soon” mode for last 7 months or so. In fact, Cingular (now AT&T) has more than 78 phones. So, the fact of the matter is that Yahoo Go 2.0 is supported only on 11 out of 78 AT&T phones. Another quick fact: only 1 of 78 phones has 3G capabilities. I will not be surprised if Yahoo! looses market share in the Mobile Phones sector too.
I just got an sms that yahoo go 2.0 is released for WM5. I am thrilled to know that. The fact is that I am currently installing it on my phone while writing this comment.
Although it was late it is a very welcome addition.
Thank you Yahoo!.
Here are my first impressions related to Yahoo! Go 2.0 beta for WM. I used it on Cingular 8125; which is a little slow.

Tried it out today, and there isn’t any sync support for the Nokia E62. I really need to be able to sync my calendar and contacts between the two.
Same here Keith. In one of the ironies of life I upgraded from my 6681 when end-of-life for Y! Go 1.0 was announced to the E62 only to discover – no sync!! And this after going to the website to check whether the phone was listed. Any idea why sync doesn’t work with the E60?
sorry E60 above should read E62
I’m Yahoo for mail, addresses, photos etc – on my PC. And cannot wait to get Mobile with Yahoo.
At work I use a fast Blackberry system. It does not have Yahoo’s functionality, but it is fast.
I need a Review which tells me on which phones Yahoo Go for Mobile 2.0 works at Blackberry system speed. Then I will buy one.
Memo to Yahoo Engineers (and Marketing): you have the functions, you have Go on almost 400 phones. To get me to use it, it has to be fast and robust. Then you will have the killer app.
I’ve been waiting a year and will wait another year if necessary.
I can’t believe how terrible v2.0 on Windows Mobile is! Let’s see:
1- It’s bloated and takes up far too many resources 5MB!!
2-Calendar, email don’t sync! Considering V1.0 did – this is a huge let-down!!!
3-Address book sync keeps trying, but fails.
4-The content is mostly light and superfluous. Reuters?? Who cares? I can get that in my Pocket IE browser.
5-Why would I want to use the Go interface for e-mail, when a perfectly good, integrated interface already exists on a SMARTphone/PDA!
This is an example of completely missing the mark. It’s one of the most egregious examples of unintuitive design that addresses none of the main issues associated with linking phones with yahoo. What were you thinking??
I have to echo zipdawg, the fact that I can’t sync my email and calendar just crippled my PDA. What was once the best Windows Mobile software with version 1.x has now become useless in 2.0.
Go 2.0
Well, what a let down. Bring back Go 1.0
I am so disapointed, i purchased a new phone for me and my wife on the strength that Go 1.0/2.0 will coordinate our schedules.
Uh.. the calender does not sync with mobile outlook, cannot be edited, and the interface is too slow!
Come on Yahoo. take note and make the changes…. I need to use yahoo calender for my family and work, it was the only thing that worked, until Go 2.0!!! Arhhhh
I totally agree. Go 2 was a total disappointment. I very muched loved all features from 1.x with all the sync capabilities and have the “Y! connection” application running on the background, which syncs your contacts, email, calendar, etc. in a specified intervals with very minimal resources. This made life so much easier. Now all of these were taken away on the release of 2.0! Only thing close to being useful is its address book sync that keeps failing. All the revamp of the UI were totally unnecessary and resource hog, specially when all you’re seeing is “updating” on every click. I get more out of yahoo mobile site for news and search using pocket IE. I really hope Yahoo turns this around or if not…bring back 1.x.
