I am not very sure. If YDS is free and its entirely from X1 and now even X1 is free - why should I use YahooDS? Moreover X1 has been always a very professional software and has been for quite a long time even before Yahoo thought of DS. It has more features than YDS too. I would rather use X1.

Wait for some more time and we can find a open source replacement for this too.

Yahoo Desktop Search is a good initiative to integrate the windows desktop but so much more can be done.
Perhaps creating something like a desktop sidebar will be a good start
http://www.desktopsidebar.com/

And making users more aware of new Konfabulator widgets update, will be cool too

Nice feature but its something I put out on my blog over a year ago and I'm no one's resident search guru. See http://www.unsogno.net/177/2004/08/need-to-know-more-about-something-you.html . But I'm lazy so it only works in IE.

I'm very happy to hear that YDS is out of BETA, and is an official product. For a while there, I was beginning to wonder if it had been abandoned.

Hopefully this release incorporates a number of fixes that have plagued the beta versions. New features are nice, but actually working as it's supposed to is paramount.

Off to download now...

Is there a change log available? As there is no new version of the expansion pack I'm curious, when the OpenOffice indexing bug will be solved. Second question: Is the YDS forum read by developers? I posted this problem there long times ago. (YDS is the best desktop search available, I strongly believe.)
