My Yahoo! on Your Desktop
When we first launched My Yahoo! in the summer of 1996, it didn’t
take long before we wanted to do even more with it. Back then, not
everyone spent hours a day in their browser, so later that year we
launched the My Yahoo! News Ticker to deliver the same personalized
news, weather, sports scores and stock quotes directly to the desktop.
(gosh, that was over 8 years ago)
Well, now the new My Yahoo! is here and it allows people to stay up
to date with any of the millions of RSS feeds out there–from
href="http://www.craigslist.org/">craigslist to
href="http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/">Jeremy’s Blog to
href="http://www.nytimes.com/">The New York Times. And again we
asked ourselves the same question: how can we make it easy for users
to get their information on the desktop?
Answer: The Return of My Yahoo Ticker – this time
with all the new good stuff. Today on
href="http://next.yahoo.com/">Yahoo! Next we’ve put out a new beta
version of My Yahoo! Ticker for
Windows. It’s pretty simple: just enter your Yahoo! ID and password
and it will use all your personalized settings to scroll your
headlines from Yahoo! and RSS feeds from around the Web. If you used
the original My Yahoo! Ticker, you’ll feel right at home.
Try It Out
Go
download ticker to give it a try. Once you have,
just right click on the ticker area to open the preferences dialog. In that dialog box, just enter your Yahoo ID and
password. That’s it — you’re done. Then, all your personalized info
will start scrolling through the ticker.
Of course, it’s not just RSS feeds. The Ticker pulls all the other
content you’d expect to see in My Yahoo: new mail notifications, stock
quotes, sports scores, weather forecasts, and so on. When you see a
headline scroll by that grabs your attention, click it. Now you don’t
need to open a browser to keep up with all that info. It even works in
screen saver mode.
Can’t forget search…
This is the Yahoo Search blog, so it’s fitting
that we have built in search too. Just type your search and the
results come up in a little window without forcing you to launch a
browser or leave the application you are working in.
Since I installed ticker on my desktop, I’ve really started using
the keyboard shortcuts. I just press “CTRL+ALT+Y” to access the
search box. Even better, I can just select some text in whatever
application I’m working in, then press “CTRL+ALT+Y” and “enter” to do
a search on that text. There’s also keyboard shortcuts for image
search, news search and all our other vertical searches.
I hope you’ll give the Ticker a try and let us know what you
think.

P.S. A number of you have asked me about the new My Yahoo! It’s
been out of beta for two months now and we’ve also upgraded the SBC
Yahoo! home page. We’ve been doing regular updates to the product
and keep listening to feedback for areas we need to focus on. Thanks
for helping us through it all.

RSS Feeds…this is awesome feature..
Me gonna try it now :D
Deep
Make it for Mac fools!
Works great, thanks for the tool. The only issue I’ve noticed is that while active it still shows as an app in the Windows taskbar. Not a huge problem, but it would be nice if it didn’t need that to run.
I installed the ticker and it’s a great idea but I can’t get it to give me all the information I want. It scrolls my stock portfolios and weather but none of my RSS feeds. It scrolls sports, which I actually don’t care about, but I can’t get it to scroll AP stories or any of my RSS feeds. Any workarounds? suggestions?
Greatest comeback of the year, and it’s only january. Thank you so much for a great present :-)
I think it’s a cool idea (I hadn’t used the previous version) but can you make it more discreet by default? The big brown misaligned text is unattractive, also for me it’s unexpected that the links don’t change to the hand cursor when you mouseover them, and I can’t find the option to remove stocks from the feed (I have no portfolio specified in my yahoo).
I’m glad to see that the ticker is back, but not being able to undock it from the taskbar, sucks…
Searchable Yahoo mail! The main thing holding me back from using Yahoo mail as my main mail client is how difficult it is to search! (Also, why can’t folders be nested?) Is really searchable Yahoo mail on the horizon?
i like it, i remember the last one. can you make it so that it just points to certain news items? i have a lot of them on my my yahoo page; what if i just want it to run thru weather, or cnn? PS I found some great Yahoo! screensavers from a foreign Yahoo! site. Write if you want the URL.
PS- I see where you can edit what you want as far as topics in general- but you can’t be signed in? You have to be a ‘guest?’
Okay so the great thing (desktop search) has arrived. But right now I am thinking how will they (yahoo, google and msn) use it for profit?
why do I recieve a blank as a password when I request a reminder of the password?
Why is it that when I request a password reminder from yahoo they send me a blank as passsword. I cannot acces my account.
I was really amazed with yahoo and its new products. Though i am new user i love you guys work. As per my yahoo We need more color templates which must be light in color. You guys are giving dark colors. Give light colors its cool in looks. For profile info, allow us to change secret answers also. because i lost my old id because of forgetting password and also answers( created before 6 years lost before 2 years). can any visiter tell me how to improve my blog http://bepenfriends.blogspot.com
Why can I only add new cities to my Weather search, not delete them?
I am very pleased with the new ticker. It really is nearly exactly what I have been looking for for some time. Thank you.
Improvement suggestions:
*Popup blocking in QuickView!
*Scroll up 1 headline, pause, scoll up, pause, etc…
*Choose which elements from My Yahoo page appear in ticker.
