I ran an ad on the TIAS Newsletter. Yahoo picked it up and I have had two people try to scam me with “we’ll send you money and you pass it on to the third person” One was a Tony Johnson who claimed to be in the UK but his Yahoo address said Yahoo Canada. The second one called himself John Davies007@yahoo.com but was signed Dr. sammy Obana and in another place called himself “flakky”. Fortunately I did not fall for either but thought I would pass it on to your subscribers as a warning.

I won’t be implementing “rel=nofollow.” This is a very backwards measure that I doubt will see much success. I does not prevent comment spam at all. Sure it won’t get PR, but it’s still in my blog, forcing me to look at it. I prefer using the very effective anti-spam plugins developed for my blog platform that automatically delete comment spam, and have resulted in absolutely no spam getting on the blog in the past 6 months, with only 1 false positive that was quickly restored.

Can see the pros and cons for this feature, which as others have pointed out, has legit. and dubious uses outside the world of blog comments, but aren’t comment systems that require an authentication key thing (even without registration / allowing anonymous comments), the garbled, can’t be read by a machine letters, whatever those are called (?), the better solution to the comment spam problem?

Spamming is a Solomon problem. You are dealing with
the same mentallities that have debilitated citizen band radio, ham radio, meetings, etc. There
are millions on the Internet with a large percentage
acting like “spoilers”. Ham radio escapes somewhat because an exam is required to join. I doubt that
Internet use will require proof of IQ over 100 for
admission but some type of key may be necessary to
unlock use of the Web. Actually, money helps a lot
to exercise use. Look how people not able to own
a computer or with the education to run it or
shut out.

This is just a cheap way for search engines to keep their outdated ranking technologies (which blogs tend to break). I for one will not be implementing it in my blog, nor will I be accepting trackbacks or comments from sites that do.
