New Yahoo! Mail Enhancements, Including Search
Greetings from Yahoo! Mail. Today we are rolling out several new enhancements across the globe and thought I’d take a minute to tell you specifically about three of them: improved search, full implementation of DomainKeys and Address AutoComplete.
Search
As of today, you can perform deeper searches of all the e-mail you’ve archived on Yahoo! Mail. This is especially important now that anyone can keep up to 250mb of e-mail on Yahoo! Mail. You can search specific message headers, the full message bodies, within specific folders, and so on. You’ll find that searching the Web from your Yahoo! Mail inbox is easier too. How many times has something you read in your e-mail caused you to go search the Web?
DomainKeys
We’ve begun using DomainKeys to sign all outbound messages and we are starting to verify inbound messages as well. Yahoo! is helping to make DomainKeys an open standard. The DomainKeys authentification solution validates the true origin of email messages, and as a result, provides a layer of identity protection in e-mail that can greatly reduce spoofing attacks or e-mail forgery. As ISPs and e-mail clients continue to adopt DomainKeys, you’ll no longer have to wonder if a message from makemoneyfast@yahoo.com was really sent from Yahoo! or not. Other large e-mail providers including EarthLink, are joining the fight as well.
DHTML
With our acquisition of Oddpost last July, we brought on the team and technology that was changing the way in which people think about Web based e-mail clients. The first visible sign of the Oddpost integration is the implementation of DHTML technology into the AutoComplete feature. This allows Yahoo! Mail to automatically find contacts in your address book as you type in the To, CC, and Bcc fields. This feature is really just the tip of the iceberg with regards to how we’re integrating the Oddpost technology — stay tuned for updates on this front.
We are very excited about these enhancements and we look forward to continuing to leverage the Yahoo! Network to provide compelling integrated features. Please send along feedback and recommendations to help us improve even further.

I’m a big user of Yahoo Mail and I really enjoy the features of my premium account. i often read emaildiscussions.com’s forums and i realized that yahoo mail really was more powerful than the webmails from other big companies. it seems that storage is not so much the big thing to focus on right now. Few days ago I read about the next Hotmail:
http://www.winbeta.org/comments.php?shownews=1992&catid=1
There are features i would love to see implemented in Yahoo Mail like IMAP support, at least for premium users, as well as photo integration in the composer for example. i would like to see the editing tools from photos.yahoo.com to be accessible directly from the Yahoo Mail composer that would just rock.
Quite franckly when I see people getting all excited about GMail i do wonder why…Yeh sure, the thread view is a good idea but then what…? Yahoo’s as fast and provides a real PIM …
Also maybe the Yahoo Mail default page should be reveiwed. either we could choose a default folder to be displayed either you could make a page similar to the Outlook Today page with a summary of the PIM for the current day for example.
FInally I would implement more customizable views, that is more colors themes. i would also love to be able to put the tabs (Mail address book, calendar, Notepad) where I want , for example on the left side instead of seeing them at the top…that is to have a full control of the display more. In the same way, a message preview pane could be convenient and would certianly satisfy email client users.
Oh, well I could go on and on like that. Just keep up the good work :)
Brad,
You know what mail feature enhancement I love most? As someone who failed spelling in third grade and never recovered, the new(er) spell check rocks… especially compared to the old one that never worked… at least not for me.
Thanks for still trying to make our user experience better.

Hello, Brad.
Some issues:
1. Last time I checked (about 3 minutes ago) the free Yahoo Mail mailbox size was 100MB, Not 250 as indicated in this post. The 250MB is AFAIK what Microsoft are very slowly upgrading their Hotmail accounts to…
2. Integrating DomainKeys is basically a very good idea, but just make sure that messages a DomainKeys check will indicate as forged will still arrive to the bulk folder, and never deleted automatically without user intervention. Or at least leave it as an option.
3. Since there will be an actual person with Yahoo! Mail reading this, I’d also like to take the opportunity to mention that your spam filters have a strange problem, where a message that a Yahoo! Mail user sends to themselves, including a geocities address, will get to the Bulk folder…
4. And you should really really really do something about your mail customer support that will allow real person to read and respond to user queries. Waiting for a post in a *search* blog is not what one would expect…
(For a much fuller version, about my complaints in 3 and 4 here, you can see:
http://www.ordinarynothing.org/blog/2004/10/more_on_yahoo_s.html
http://www.ordinarynothing.org/blog/2004/10/yahoo_support_a.html
http://www.ordinarynothing.org/blog/2004/10/more_on_fake_na.html
The first (more_on_yahoo_s.html) is mostly about the technical problem, but the other two were written in a mood of frustration and annoyance with not being able to get the message to anyone, so are not entirely civil…)
Apart from that I must say that the Yahoo! Mail interface is the most comfortable from all the webmail interfaces I got to use so far, so very good job, and carry on.
Another blatant copy of google’s gmail.. ugh
And yahoo mail users, wake up from 1997 and look at 2004 and gmail ;)
You know, I like the domain keys idea to combat phishing fraud, but I have one question. What if you’re using ’support@mysmallbusiness.com’ as your from/reply-to address, but your real address is ’smallbizowner@giantisp.com’, and your business email forwards to your actual email. It seems to me there is a lot of potential for legitimate emaiil that is undeliverable. This system is definitely good for the consumer, but it may hurt some small business owners.

Thanks so much for your responses. It is great to receive candid feedback on how we can improve the Yahoo! Mail service. Id like to take the opportunity to address some of the questions, suggestions and concerns posted today.
Today we have announced an increase in storage from 100 MB to 250 MB for all free users worldwide. Because we have tens of millions of users around the world, we are rolling out this enhancement on a phased basis. If you dont see your storage limits increased today, you can expect to see the increase in the coming weeks.
We agree that sharing photos through e-mail is very important. In fact, digital photos (jpg files) are the leading type of attachments shared through Yahoo! Mail. To provide a richer photo sharing experience in e-mail, we are focused on increasing the integration between Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Photos. So stay tuned you wont be disappointed!
E-mail is very personal and providing a customizable experience is essential. Thank you for all your suggestions for making our interface more customizable. As we continue to incorporate new and improved functionality into our service, like we did with the new Address Auto Complete feature, we look forward to giving more interface options to our users.
With our DomainKeys technology, we are intent on increasing protection from harmful spam and phishing attacks. If we identify a phishing attack on our system, we will be sure to take the appropriate action to protect our users.
Thank you for your feedback on our SpamGuard filter. We are continually enhancing the SpamGuard technology, so I will be sure to raise your Bulk Mail folder issue with my anti-spam product team.

Good job guy at yahoo, I still hope that you will look more at what gmail is doing and give pop3 back to free users! thenx!
Hello, Brad.
You’re right (of course) about the size increase. I’m not sure if the announcements were made before or after this post, but I think it’s good that you obviously see this as a minor feature compared to matters of usability, and did not make it another item on this post.
It was also good to see that you’ve done something with the bulk mail problem I detailed.
But while you should do something to prevent people sending spam from Yahoo! Mail accounts (anything with a geocities URI is spam?), there are some problems with your CAPTCHA implementation as it acts now:
1. If I send multiple messages I get the CAPTCHA challenge every time, not that I expect to send too many problematical messages, but it can still get annoying.
2. The reasons for getting the challenge are not clear. I get it whenever sending something like the messages that caused my problem before, and not on others. Are you running your regular SpamGuard filter on outgoing messages and decide based on that, or is there a totally different mechanism?
3. Sending the same problematic message to a different account outside of Yahoo does not present the captcha screen. Sending to different accounts in Yahoo does. Does it mean you care if spam is sent from a Yahoo address only when it is sent to other Yahoo accounts ?
Also, did you fix the problem that caused messages to get to the bulk folder even if the sender is in the address book, which was a part of the original problem? Or is this again just a temporary workaround for now? Because even if your filters were certain that the messages were spam, they still shouldn’t have been sent to the bulk folder with a known sender.
Another simple interface change that would be an improvement is to return back to the inbox (or last active folder/message) after sending a message. The “Message Sent” page does not provide anything useful besides the back-to-inbox link. Same thing with the “Message Canceled” page. It’s not serious, but would remove an annoyance.
I’ll second Yaron’s request for fixing the “Message Sent” page, or at least making it a prefence setting that one can tweak. On a slow connection, it’s just extra latency and wasted time.
Are there any plans to make the ability to send HTML email compatible with firefox?
I still have 100 Mb. Is this upgrade limited to a few users? :-(
I subscribe to multiple search engine newsletters (High Rankings, Search Engine Watch, etc.) through my Yahoo account and 80-90% of the time, they show up as spam:.(

Why does Yahoo Personal Address not support hosting just the mail portion of a domain (by changing MX record) ?
Alternatively Yahoo should provide the option of Masked URL forwarding.
Also the help section does not specify whether Yahoo Personal Address provides catchall mail capturing.
Pls clarify.
I would like to know the logic behind not providing uniform features across Yahoo’s country specific domains.
For eg. why does Yahoo US not support POP3 whereas other international Yahoo Mail provides POP3
I second the comment on messages ending up in the Bulk folder when they’re coming from an address in the Address Book; I hope you can get that fixed. Also, is there any way to make forwarding attachments less complicated? On other systems, if someone sends an attachment, you can just hit Forward and include the attachment, but with Yahoo, you have to download it and then upload it again – not worth it for a set of jokes! (Or is this what you have in mind – trying to stop people annoying other people with stupid forwards? :-) But I’ve had my free Yahoo account for 7 years, and these are minor complaints when set against the mostly good service I’ve received in that time. Keep up the good work!
Hi,
Since the 250mb upgrade I have been unable to compose new e-mail. No message box appears and error on page is displayed on the bottom right.
If I access a different account(without the storage upgrade) from the same computer I get no problem.
Is there anything i can do?
Mesfin
Now I’m confused.
You solved the problem of messages to self getting into the bulk folder, by presenting a CAPTCHA challenge when sending whatever messages would cause the problem. This was a bad solution since the whole idea was to be able to send myself short emails as reminders, and by making the process complicated it became pointless to do this through Yahoo, but the problem I reported was technically solved.
Today I got an email from your mail support team about the problem, in direct continuation of the correspondence I had with them a while ago. The message said they could not reproduce the problem, and asked (again) for permission to log into my account if the problem persist. The request was the exact same word-to-word paragraph used in the past, to which I have already replied with a no, but I figured that as long as someone decides to followup I can treat it seriously and see if it’s possible to work together.
Before telling them about the changes I knew you made, I decided to test again, just in case.
I sent myself a message with a geocities link, and was not presented with the CAPTCHA challenge. Which started to make me happy, thinking the problem was perhaps now solved properly, and this is why your mail support team was unable to reproduce it.
So I sent myself one more message to be sure, went to look for them, and then discovered that both messages reached my *BULK* folder…
Exactly as before.
Ergo the status now is that despite various interim steps, this is back where it was at the beginning with the problem unsolved and without the workaround.
I sent a reply detailing this to the support team, explaining again how to reproduce the problem, and stating that I do not want them in my account but am willing to create a dummy one for them and let them use it (It does happen on other accounts, I did check with several real friend’s accounts) if they need to.
So while this problem seems to be unsolved so far, I’ll wait and see if at least the mail support team responses will be more practical and relevant, which is far more important (and will probably help solve the original problem as well).
I did tell them not to log into my account.
And just now they logged into my account to send and read messages.
Trying to help is nice, but ingoring customers’ privacy, aginst customer’s specific replies, is outragous.
A reminder that as good as yahoo mail is, and as nice and comfortable as the inteface is, on some aspects I still get what I pay for.
If you’re looking for interface improvements to Yahoo! Mail, try considering removing the links to the privacy policy. Reducing irrelevant clutter is important.
use http://www.fastmail.fm
much better
I get a lot of false positives in my bulk mail folder in yahoo mail plus. and yahoo makes it difficult to correct that mistake by forcing the user to open the message and then move it to the inbox. gmail and msn mail don’t make you do that. gmail is a better service at this point, as much as I wanted yahoo to be. gmail has a better spam filter imo. by the way, i don’t have the new search function in my yahoo mail yet. looking forward to it.
Hello -
Thanks for your additional comments and feedback regarding Yahoo! Mail. Ive addressed a few of your general questions below.
Regarding questions about the word verification (CAPTHCA challenge) system, its important to note that we are using this tactic to protect the Yahoo! Mail system from abuse by spammers.
We use a variety of techniques to determine when to show the word verification page which is designed to inhibit the use of automated spamming tools.
To pass the word verification, simply type the word displayed in the field provided and click the “Continue” button.
Email addresses in your Yahoo! Address Book will automatically go to your Inbox with the exception of your own email address. This is done to prevent spammers from spoofing the “from” address to appear as if you sent the message and causing the message to be delivered to your Inbox.
We apply our proprietary SpamGuard technology on all inbound and outbound messages. Its our top priority to ensure that our e-mail users are receiving the messages they want and value.
Through our “This is Spam” and This is Not Spam buttons, our users tell us what is and is not spam. We continually adjust our SpamGuard filtering technology based on user feedback. Yahoo! Mail Plus users have the added ability to personalize their spam filters in order to improve their experience. All it takes is a bit of training by marking messages that land accidentally in the bulk folder with the This is Not Spam button, and of course, continuing to mark spam in the inbox.
In reference to questions about Yahoo!s international service, we customize our offerings based on specific needs and usage in each market. We are constantly evolving our service to meet the changing needs of e-mail users around the globe. In the US, free Yahoo! Mail users can currently access POP3 mail through the Yahoo! Mail interface, while Yahoo! Mail Plus users can access their Yahoo! Mail through their POP client, such as Outlook.
Forwarding attachments through Yahoo! Mail is a simple process with a default option of clicking forward to send the message and attachment to another user. There is also a drop down menu on the forward button enabling the user to forward as inline text or forward as an attachment, offering the user additional options. The user should not be required to download an attachment in either scenario.
With regards to compatibility with Firefox, we have no information to share today but will keep you posted!
Hi, Brad.
Regarding your paragraph: Email addresses in your Yahoo! Address Book will automatically go to your Inbox with the exception of your own email address. This is done to prevent spammers from spoofing the “from” address to appear as if you sent the message and causing the message to be delivered to your Inbox.
1. I got to see a lot of spam messages, on a lot of different email accounts with different providers, for years. The percentage of message on which the spoofed “from” is the same as the recipient is less than negligible. And is unlikely to change.
2. By default people do not have themselves in their address book. It needs to be added there just like any other address. If someone chose to add it, it should be awarded the same treatment that other AB entries get. The different treatment would have been justified only if the self address was created automatically.
3. There are various techniques used to try and authenticate email sender domains. You may have heard of the one called DomainKeys? Are you trying to tell us here that after implementing DomainKeys you are not able to differentiate between messages sent from a valid Yahoo account and messages with a spoofed Yahoo sender address?! This does not say much for the technology, or for your trust in it…
4. The different treatment of self address is more than simply not granting the same go-to-inbox protection of other AB entries. The same messages that sent to myself through the a yahoo account arrived into the Bulk folder (or now present the CAPTCHA challenge) are received into the Inbox if sent from an outside account. Even from an outside account that is not added into the AB. This means that had the message came from an unknown recipient it would not have been identified as spam.
An on a different note, please bring back the checkbox allowing to select on a per-message basis whether to keep it in the Sent folder or not.
If there are messages for which the desired behaviour is different from the default, it’s much simpler to just change a checkbox. This was a good option, and should not have been removed.
Now if I don’t want to keep a sent message, I have to waste time finding and deleting the copy. Worse, people for who the default is not to keep the messages have to go through several screens to change the global setting, send the message, then go and change the setting back.
suggestion 1: email a newsletter out to users re yahoo mail updates etc.
question 1: Yahoo USA v Yahoo UK
the USA version of Yahoo contains a built in PDF and Word viewer. Why is this feature not extended to the UK version?
Any ideas?
Does the upgraded yahoo mail provide IMAP services or just POP3?
I’ve always found the rest of the yahoo mail service excellent, rarely crashing unlike other well known webmail services!
When i try to compose a message either new or in reply, the message box is missing?
What I don’t understand and haven’t been able to get any response to, is why I continually receive spam that isn’t even addressed to me! Why is this delivered, even if it is to Bulk?
Forwarding photos and graphics
When trying to forward an email with inline photos or graphics, they will not appear in the forwarded email. All that will forward is the text and an empty box where the graphic or photo was. I’m using IE 6, and I have the free version of AVG. Any suggestions?
Brad,
This is Matt Harrison from Georgetown – was hanging with ol Porter Grant this weekend and your name came up. Was just wondering how you were doing.

Missing message box when I try to compose a message, either new or in reply using Yahoo mail. Anybody have the same problem? I tried to contact Yahoo but no response so far.
Thanks in advance for any information that you can send me.

Is there an explanation why the country code of my email address has suddenly been changed by yahoo yesterday (02/26/05) from de to com?
I have the 250MB space so it’s upgraded, but I don’t appreciate the change in my address as currently I don’t have access to my ‘old’ email address. Did anybody else experience this?

New Yahoo Mail Enhancements, Including Search
The Yahoo Search blog summarizes the new features for Yahoo Mail, including new search options.
Why the change to the attachments in your email. In the past, i’d get an email with 8-10 pictures in it and I could just scroll through the email and decide if there were any photos I wanted/needed to save. Now, the attachments are so small I have to open each one to make that decision. Looks to me like that will use a lot more bandwidth than the way they’ve always been shown. Even with screen resolution set to 800 x 600 it’s impossible to make the decision without opening each attachment. Those of us with vision problems it’s even worse. As a premium (paying) customer, you should at least give us the option on how to view the attachmetns.
I am also experiencing the “no compose box” problem, both when I try to reply to an email and when I try to compose a new one. Like the others who have posted about this problem, I’ve received no response from Yahoo. Any idea what’s going on?
Folks,
I’m in need of your help!
I would like to know, how to switch to newer version of yahoo mail, because when i logged in yesterday,it shows the settings as it would be in old version. (like the design as it would be some 2 or 3 years back). But, day before yesterday, it was fine. So, i wanted to know how to view it in new version of yahoo mail. I am using latest version of browser(IE 6.0). So, there’s no problem with the browser. In fact, my another yahoo e-mail id show up in new version. Your help is highly appreciated. To be more clear, i want my yahoo settings to be like as it’s showing in the ‘yahoo mail tour’.
Thanks,
N V Nath
i am happy
chao!
Hi Liz,
I’m am having the same problem, when I try to compose a message or reply I can enter the to email address and the subject but when I tab into the body of the message the cursor goes away and I can’t type. I haven’t gotten a response back from yahoo yet either. If you hear anything please email me at DLawCtech@yahoo.com.
Just to let you know I have found a way around if you type up your message in notepad, copy what you wrote, and then highlight the reply text then you can paste what you wrote in notepad.

My girlfriend and I are having problems with our various Yahoo Mail accounts (including one Premium account):
The Inbox and/or Bulk boxes will suddenly decide to disappear. Sometimes the “disappearance” happens after clicking ‘Select All,’ other times it just happens. Sometimes the screen below the toolbar may vanish, or the entire contents of the window disappear. After an incident, it can be impossible to recover and we have to restart with a new browser window.
The problem first occured on her machine, and now I’m getting it.
We’re using IE 6 with all the updates. I’ve tried bypassing our router/firewall so that’s not the problem. An old version of Netscape gets me into the old Yahoo interface, so I know that the mail is still there.
We’ve contacted Yahoo and received no response (not good for a paying customer and a Dir. of Online Marketing!).
Any recommendations?
Hi,
Our company is one of large website hosting providers in India having around 6000 customers whose mails are auto forwarded to various email addresses including yahoo.com from our Mail Server qmail.intermesh.net (66.36.242.130).
We have noticed that any kind of mail sent / routed from the Mail Server 66.36.242.130 is going to BULK folder.
Why is it so? What can we do to avoid it. We do not have Domainkeys defined as yet. Is the non availability of DomainKeys the reason behind messages going to bulk mail folder?
Please Guide us.

I’m having issues with the reply and compose. Most of the time I can’t do either one. It is happening with both of my accounts. Any suggestions.
Dude, where’s my text box? I also can’t compose new email messages with my Yahoo! account because the text box for the body of the message does not appear. Please email me if someone posts a solution!
Text box won’t load in Yahoo! Mail? “Error on Page” message in bottom left corner? I finally found a solution that worked for me:
In Mail Options, select “general preferences”
then in “compose” select ” plain text”
Other ideas (didn’t work for me but were recommended online)
- Download Netscape instead of Internet Explorer (I didn’t have to in the end)
- Shut off your pop-up blocker
- Delete your cookies and website cache
- Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs/Double Click “Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools/Repair Internet Explorer
I am a PLUS user and I am having 2 issues:
1. loading my inbox from clicking on my yahoo mail bookmark. I try to delete the bookmark and refresh it, but it keeps hiccuping when trying to load the page.
2. Another big issue is with the my inbox staying updated. I go to my inbox and find old emails that I have deleted, when they are not actually there. If I visit my inbox frequently I sometimes get 3-4 sessions of deleted emails, one session for every time I visited. I do eventually get to the current inbox state.
I have sent my problem to Yahoo help through the generic help message twice without any assistance.
I just paid for my plus account and have been very happy with it until now. I want to hang in there until I get this fixed.
Thanks,
Chuck

I have sent numerous emails to Yahoo mail for help and I still have not had an answer. I want to cancel my Personal Address in order to assign it to another Yahoo ID. The Yahoo help instructions tell me to log on, go to mail upgrades, then go to change billing options under my domain name, and there I will find a Cancel Service button. But nothing like that is there. All it is a page to edit billing preferences. Does anyone here know how to cancel the Personal Address domain option? Thanks
how 2 send a mail to bulk folder
Dear Brad,
I have been using Rocketmail for NINE YEARS. At present, I am a PAYING Premium Services member and have used a Yahoo! ID to login and check my Rocketmail for years. BUT…
THREE WEEKS AGO, my YAHOO! ID suddenly STOPPED pointing to my ROCKETMAIL.COM email address — after years of flawless service. Instead, my login ID now seems to point at a NEW Yahoo! email address (the one listed in this posting).
AFTER NINE CALLS and 11 EMAILS, NO ONE at Yahoo! Premium Customer Service (Billing or Tech Support) seems to know how to address this serious problem. The response has been non-existent. I have been very patient for these three weeks of communicating with Yahoo! Premium Customer Support, but my address for 9 years must be reinstated/re-started. PLEASE HELP me. My business is suffering beyond words. Not to mention, I am paying for a service that DOESN’T WORK.
Kind regards,
–>A loyal, but indreasingly distressed customer.
Loren – Thank you very much!
for the last two days i have not been able to access yahoo mail.
click go to mail from yahoo.co.uk and i get a 504 error any ideas?
Brad:
As you can see from the messages immediately above, and from some of the topmost posts, there is a serious communication problem with Yahoo! Mail. We users cannot get any form of human response from Yahoo! Mail. How ironic is this?
AS A MATTER OF URGENCY, please, *please*, do something to help communication between both the Yahoo! Mail development & implementation teams and the user community. Note: more webforms and automated form-replies are not the answer. Blogs may well be. Corporate if not employee level.
I stumbled across this blog after frustratedly trying to talk to uk-abuse@yahoo people.
Previous topics I wanted to address were feedback: requests for enhancement, feature ideas, and other issues.
Just off-hand: the number of user blockable addresses, and the number of filters available to users *sucks* in a major way. You guys short on disk space that you can’t afford a couple thousand more bytes for these? You realise how irritating this one minor issue is?
Apologies, I’m letting my frustration seep into this posting. I’ll leave the above paragraph as-is so that you understand that we really do care, and have ideas, if you only listen to our feedback.
As above, I’ve been a Rocketmail/Yahoo! user for over 8 years.
Thanks,
Alastair.rm
Would love to see sub-folders in mail, I could easily put many of my folders under two or three main ones rather than the 12 folders now which takes the whole page where I have to scroll down to find.. “Just a Suggestion”
Later !
I checked my mail on a computer at my school and it said that it could not support the current version of yahoo mail, so it asked if I wanted to revert to an older one. I said yes, but it is still that way at me home and I have no idea how to get it back.
ant help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
The really frightening thing about middle age is that you know you’ll grow out of it.
I am suddenly unable to empty my Bulk Folder in Yahoo! Mail and have tried to do this in several ways, including checking each item individually. What’s going on?
Hi,
I would love to have an option of merging multiple yahoo accounts into one. Now that space is upto 1GB, I could merge my 2 email accounts into one and have one of the emailids as an alias name (profile kinda).

When I try ton reply a message, the adress of the person I am answering doesnt appear in the box, I can no more send messages! If I try it on another computer than mine,it works! What is the problem?
Dear Brad,
I’m have been a big fan of Yahoo!. I have been a buyer of many of Yahoo’s premium services over the years. My Yahoo Mail account is my primary business and personal email address.
So when my POP3 account access went down, both my business and personal life suffered a major setback.
I was on SBC!/Yahoo’s broadband account, but canceled in November when I moved to a home where SBC does not offer internet service.
Then, in mid-April I lost my POP3 access.
Once I realized what the problem was (the 6-month grace period from SBC had expired), I tried to order MailPlus from Yahoo! (as an upgrade).
But I received the following error:
“Yahoo! is experiencing temporary technical issues.
Please try placing your order later. (15)”
So I did. In a few hours, and a few hours later, and the next day and numerous times over the next several days, but I kept getting the same error and nothing at all about this difficulty seemed “temporary.”
So I emailed Yahoo! customer service. Not once, not twice, not three times but probably half a dozen times over the next week and received no answer…I eventually received a couple of emails asking for me to log back in to the help site and provide more information to verify my account. The email messages were very cryptic and I had to make sure I wasn’t be phised.
Even after providing the information, I received no help or updates on the problem.
So I called Yahoo on April 27th. They told me I would be contacted “shortly” by someone who would help me with my problem.
Days past. I called back. Finally, I requested that the problem be “escalated”.
Today, May 14 2005, over three weeks – maybe four weeks – after my initial contact and over …I still have no resolution to the problem.
I have recommended yahoo products to friends, but after this experience, I wonder what kind of support and integrity the company really has.
What kind of attention is the company placing on supporting its products and their customers.
So Brad, I would like to receive an explanation from you personally on what is being done to resolve this kind of problem.
I look forward to your contact.
Regards,
Ed

I have the same problem Dan posted on April 25th only in my case it was a pocket PC running PIE that made Yahoo Mail want to “revert to an older version of Yahoo”. I unintentionally did so and now I’m stuck with an old horrible version of Yahoo Mail on any computer I use, and cannot access features I use heavily. I need to know how to undo this disaster, there is no clue whatsoever on how to do so, and Yahoo Customer Care has not responded at all. Grateful for any help.
This is very important, I am unable to clear my bluk mail box for the past two weeks and the enteries has been growing. What can I do to clear it each time I try to clear it the computer freezes. When I clear inbox it works fine. Please let me know, kindly email me
Thanks
Ken
I have the exact same situation that Ed above has. I left SBC DSL and lost my POP access and can’t get Mail Plus to work.
Yahoo! is experiencing temporary technical issues.
Please try placing your order later. (15)
I haven’t sent as many messages to support as Ed has, but I have sent several with no responses.
Dan
Just a real quick question, which perhaps has been answered, but I can’t find it. Plus, it seems impossible to get in touch with Yahoo.
I am interested in upgrading to the PLUS service, but I want to be able to access my Yahoo mail through Outlook using IMAP. Is this possible with the Mail Plus?
Thanks,
Steven
Just restored Windows XP and now I can not ‘compose’ a message in Yahoo mail. The cursor goes to the address and subject lines but will not go to the compose section. What would do that?
Why can’t we search the Bulk mail folder?
OK, I’ve been training Yahoo! Mail, but sometimes mail that I want still ends up in Bulk. I used to be able to search the Bulk folder for mail that I might want. However, for the last month or so, the search page no longer allows the Bulk folder to be selected; there is no way to search it.
Can we have that ability returned to us?
when I send emails to people that have been forwarded many times, they have to click on each of the attachments before they finally get what I am sending. They complain this takes a lot of time. If I try to download the attachment to my computer to generate a new email the picture in the attachment doesn’t show up – I just get a red X. Please help.

For WEEKS I’ve received this message when trying to upgrade to Mail Plus!
What to do??
I was in Yahoo! Mail this morning and I got knocked out and when I went back in, all my mail and addresses were gone, and it said I had been deactivated. I can’t find a way to contact Yahoo! Mail to see what the problem is. Please help. I need to get my mail back.
This happened to me once before and it just showed up again, but I have time critical stuff on there that I really need.
Thanks.
How about a search feature for Yahoo message boards? Current search on messages is extremely linited. I’d be willing to pay. Thank you
I just went sprint wireless for my other computer and now I can’t do anything in yahoo; sign-in, search, check mail, my yahoo toolbar can’t even retrieve buttons. Would someone tell me what to do. I have no Idea. Thanks

I have paid for Yahoo MailPlus for 2 years. Recently, my inbox view was updated and it has been a disaster. Critical links are missing to Compose, Sent Box, Draft Box and Bulk Mail (I can access them only by substituting “Sent”, for example, for “Inbox” in the web address, a pure fluke). I also can’t download attachments or attach attachments. This is a complete disaster because I use this account for business.
Of course, no response from Yahoo Help Desk…does anyone have similar problems or a contact number for Yahoo?
Please help…I am desperate!
Thanks, Don
Brad, sorry, this is the only way to reach you. If you remember me, I worked at the first version of Dialpad. Several friends are developing an interesting VoIP tool that’s different from what’s on the market. Maybe you’d like to hear more about it. Drop me an email and I’ll give you more details. — andreas
Please return the “Search Bulk” function!
Without it, it is IMPOSSIBLE to find a message that might have been incorrectly tagged as spam.
Scenario: “How come this person has not responded yet?” “Well, I will check my bulk folder… Oh… I have about 5000 messages in it, covering the last month, this means clicking through and reading at least 500 pages of 100 items”
Come on, guys!
Yahoo is the worst thing that ever happened to the internet. Yes, a long time ago, your web search with an organized list of web destinations was useful.. I give you that one. But Yahoo software is bloated and disorganized garbage. Jesus christ, SBC users can’t even ‘forward’ emails that have pictures in them. Frikin’ lame.
i tried to send email to myself.
every time yahoo asked me to verify by typing a random text my message went to Bulk folder. another friend of mine tried it and same thing happened.
My yahoo mail interface changed.. after i use my ppc to to check my mails
any idea how to change it back to normal ?
For some reasion, I have been unable to down load or save mail attachments (pdf or ather documents, pictures are no problem) I have played with IE settings and other firewall settings thinking that something has changed, but I am still unable to open or save PDF and other documents to my computer. I have re-set IE back to defult settings, but still to no-avail.
Does any one have ideas?

I logged into a Pocket PC one time. It totally changed the interface of my email. I can’t compose, send, reply or forward.
What can I do to get the old interface back?
I have not been able to delete anything from my
bulk folder for the past several weeks, I’ve selected each item I wanted to delete and click
the delete button and it does nothing, so I try
and empty the bulk folder and still nothing happens and what’s more frustrating is the bulk
folder keeps growing. So what I have managed to
do is move many of the files to my inbox folder a
and delete them that way but my bulk account should be able to function without playing
all of this switch-a-roo, what causes this problem? Please tell me how I can fix it!
Hi there!
Just queer to know… can someone tell me what user base Yahoo mail has vis-a-vis gmail. Is it too wide a margin that we can’t afford to have a 1GB space for yahoo mail users. With subscriptions to cvs, svn mailing lists and other dev and user lists the free space limit is declining note worthily.
For those having problems with the opening the “compose” box try using Mozilla Firefox as your browser. It worked for me. Guess it’s a IE problem that preventing it from opening it.HTH.

Sri
For Cheng and Teresa who are having interface problem after using ppc to access Yahoo Mail:
Please go to Yahoo PhotoMail page and install the program, then it will return to normal. At least, this works for me.

Frankie
This may not be on the topic, but I need some help. I know people from Yahoo read this so I’m hoping that I can get their help since the actual online “help” is no good. Somehow a trojan horse got onto my computer through Yahoo messenger and someone was able to steal my password and changed all of my account information. I can no longer access my account, yet someone is still running my messenger and trying to distribute more of these trojan horses. I have tried to explain this on the account security email, but I am having no luck. I need to be able to call someone to explain my problem, but Yahoo account security has no listed number, only online help. I have to keep going to my account every 12 hours and bombard it with the “wrong” password so I can lock the account up so the people who stole it can’t use it either. Please help me!!! If someone at yahoo could email me at biggietimz@hotmail.com and let me know how to resolve this, it would really be helpful. I have used my yahoo email for about 7 years now and I loved it until this happened and I’d like to get back to it again. But I would rather have my previous account shut down than to have it used the way it is right now. And just for reference, the account that has been stolen is under biggietimz@yahoo.com, as well as my yahoo messenger biggietimz. If you contact that messenger I beleive it will ask you to go to a link that sends you to yahoo photos where I believe that is where I got my trojan horse infection from. Any help would be appreciated….thank you
An improvement I’d like to see in Yahoo Mail is easier and faster downloading of photos and other files. The best thing would be an option to download a zip file of all attachments. Right now it takes about 4 clicks and 30 seconds per attachment, in addition to the download time. The zip file would make this a lot faster by downloading all at once. Thanks!
My yahoo mail webpage will not download properly. I have an ERROR ON PAGE displayed in the left bottom corner, and am thus unable to forward or reply to emails and more. The error message displays
Linee : 370
Char: 4
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
how do i fix this. no need in using a yahoo email if I cant reply to my messages?
When I go to Yahoo.com the page comes up blank and I have to hit the refresh key for everything to load. And it bottom left corner it says error on page, then in my emails, it will not let me reply or forward anything, very frustrating. I’ve contacted Yahoo. But they could not help. All was working fine a few days ago, I even tried to do the “restore” back to a day that it worked, but that didnt help either!!! help please..
my friend knows all my personal details &i want to protect it
some time I am unable to open Compose window fully in yahoo mail.Kindly help.
Some time I am unable to open compose window fully in yahoo mail. Some time while replying and forwarding it gives error on page.Kindly help
With Firefox, I seem to receive various Javascript errors when Yahoo! Mail pages load…and then certain buttons are disabled.
The help has been from we don’t support Firefox to clear your cache. I have cleared my cache, even uninstalled, deleted, and reinstalled Firefox from scratch, new profile, etc…no help.
There is a serious Javascript error occuring. Please run Firefox, and open the Javascript console while running Yahoo! Mail to see the issues.

My comment is on the “verification box” I get nearly every time I send mail! I have had Yahoo mail for many years, and am NOt a SPAMMER! I AM, however , visually impaired!!! This verification letter/number thing is not easy for those of us not Blessed with good vision! I often cannot make out the letters, and sometimes when I get soneone to help me with perfect vision they too have problems!
There should be a better system. Many of my friends with visual problems can now only use e-mail with assistance.
Thanks,
Cat
I am unable to open compose box fully. So I am not able to type my text in compose box.Why is it so?Any help available?
I noticed several people have posted with the problem I was just having. Not being able to compose, reply or forward because the text box doesn’t appear. Here is some info I found that may help-http://help.yahoo.com/help/in/mail/errors/errors-07.html
I was able to fix the problem by clearing my temporary internet files. There are also some other possible solutions listed on the above link.If that doesn’t work, I was also able to transmit messages if I switched to the plain text from HTML/color graphics formatting.
I can’t send email on my Yahoo email account. The problem just started yesterday. Anyone else out there having the same problem?
I too am having trouble with Yahoo mail. Either I can’t get into it at all, or I can get in, but then when I try to open any mail or reply to, it just won’t load. It is so frustrating!
I wonder if JB will do what I did last night: I signed up for a Gmail account and it works great. But I sure rather keep my Yahoo email account because that’s been my home base for so long. Are JB and I the only ones having the problem since Yahoo added new features on Sunday?
Heck no you are not the only one having trouble with YAHOO! Been that way for two freaking days now and I am fed up with them. I have had yahoo since there was a yahoo, but if this is not fixed by morning, I am outta yahoo for good. As big a compnay as they are this is uncalled for.
Pocket PC Yahoo mail trouble. it seems that yahoo changed is mail page. On my Pocket PC running on pocket IE, it no longers asks me to select IE6 or NS7.1 or my Switch back to the Yahoo! version supported by your current browser.
It now just launches into the new mail page and now the buttons for search yahoo, search mail, reply compose, spam, delete, forward don’t work. There’s nothing there but the text picture.
HELP! How do I go back to having a working mail page??? I’ve cleared cookies, temp internet files and history folders and rebooted. No use.
I have spent hours and hours trying to get my Yahoo mail to send and reply – it just does nothing. It started yesterday. I can now see that others have this problem. I can recieve mail. What is going on? Anyone got a solution?
YAHOO IS SO SLOW THESE PAST 2 DAYS!!! I AM SO FRUSTRUATED!!!! WHAT IS GOING ON????????
Some time ago most of the buttons in Yahoo Mail stopped working. “Empty” bulk folder, delete, spam, mark, move, etc. After searching through the almost useless help files I actually managed to send and RECEIVE a help message from Yahoo. This took too many attempts. The fellow was polite but of no help and finaly suggested changing from IE6 to Mozilla Firefox which I did and all was well. This week out of the blue the SAME THING with Firefox. Not one thing was changed by me! I gave up and have gotten myself a GMAIL account from Google and am in the process of making the change-over. Something is seriously wrong in Yahooland and those with GMAIL seemed to be very happy. I won’t even touch Yahoo search I’m so P””d-off.

Wow, Im just appalled at how unresponsive Yahoo! is being over this problem with compose in e-mail as I notice people seem to be having this problem for at least over a year now?
I began having the problem the other day on my Gateway laptop on which I have Windows XP professional.
I got to wondering if maybe my IE 6 was corrupted so I proceeded to find out how to repair it. Well, there isnt a direct way to do it on XP. On older versions of Windows you can go to add/remove programs and run this IE 6 repair option.
I found this web site where they explain a couple ways to do a repair on IE 6 on XP. I used Method 2, right clicking on ie.inf and then clicking on install. Please read the disclaimers on the site first! And I cant be held responsible either! Im no big computer expert/geek. Im just saying I found this method and it worked for me. Hope it works for others having this problem!

There are 2 accounts in my household and both of them are messed up. We cant COMPOSE, FORWARD or REPLY. WE HAVE NO COMPOSE BOX and no one would answer after the mails we sent for help. I can receive mail though. Before this happened, Yahoo was very slow for about 3-4 days!!!
I FOUND A WAY TO FIX THE MISSING “COMPOSE” BOX. In fact someone in here was sugesting to take the next steps to fix it. AND IT WORKED, anyone can do it. Do the following:
“In Mail Options, select “general preferences”
then in “compose” select ” plain text” ”
THANK YOU TO THE PERSON WHO POSTED THIS. IT WORKED.
Love The Yahoo Mail Plus, Just signed on for another year. Great for sending large photo files
besides the standard e-mails. Here’s my problem…I have a work station and a home server.
Several days ago I tried to attach a file to the Yahoo mail, from the server, while on my work station. It would not attach. A message popped up stating ” File Specified Invalid” tried it with different files, MS word, j-peg files and EPS, PDF several others. No luck.
Since I’m on my work station I might a well test it with a file from the this computer I’m on.
Well sure enough, SUCCESS!. It attached the file just like old times. But the server is where I store most of my info that needs to be sent.
Also checked it out directly from the Server. Yahoo Mail Plus..that also works. But I really don’t want to switch back and forth using the serveras my E-mail terminal. I’ve been attaching the server files from the workstation before.
Any suggestions? Could use some help. Im using windows XP SP 2
Thanks

How do I go back to having a “upgrade browser” mail page?

WHAT is going on with the SEND? I have tried to send emails from 3 different computers (two running XP and Mozilla, one running 98 plus and Mozilla). I can’t send any Yahoo email. I can’t get a response from “customer service”. A friend of mine is having the same trouble. What gives? Should I just ditch this account?
Hi,
I checked my mail this morning in a computer that couldn’t support the current version of Yahoo mail.I was asked to revert to an old version so i did but wherever computer I check my email now, it still looks the same way. Would anyone know how to revert to the new version again? I cannot even compose emails. Please let me know if you have any solutions to this. Thanks! All help will be appreciated.
Hi, I’ve been a Yahoo mail account holder for 10+ years. I’ve been happy with the service so far, and even clicked thru ads in return for the good service.
In the last week, however, everything has fallen apart. I haven’t received an e-mail (to my inbox or even my bulk e-mail) in over a week, and have sent four progressively angrier messages to Yahoo mail Customer Care – without a SINGLE response. I sent a test message to myself, and was told that my address eric-senunas@yahoo.com is not a valid account. I have no idea why – I never received any notice from Yahoo about problems with my account or Yahoo’s service. I’m totally in the dark.
I’ve begun using Gmail, but I really don’t want to abandon Yahoo! However, I can’t go on without receiving e-mail. I’ve begun changing all my addresses, and if I change them all before I even receive a response from Yahoo, I’ll never go back (and I’ll make sure EVERYONE (1100+ addresses) knows why).
Can someone please contact the incompetents at Customer Service and let them know they’re about to lose one of their longest-standing customers? I can’t tell you how disappointed (and furious) I am with the level of service Yahoo mail is now providing. I guess you get what you pay for – but it doesn’t feel that way with the folks at Google.
all I want is to be able to get my Yahoo mail it is not working !!! it was ok this morning . or for that matter cant access any of my yahoo programs this afternoon Please , PLEASE h
For the past week, my Yahoo account has loaded with numerous errors. Can this be repaired? PLEASE?
I’m having trouble receiving incoming mail on the yahoo POP server. All the settings are correct, and I’ve logged out of all other yahoo sites already, but it’s still not working. It logs in and sends mail but won’t receive. Any ideas? It was working yesterday morning no problem. When I check mail on the internet there’s no problem either. My other pop mail accounts are all fine. I’m worried I may have been logged in on POP and the internet at the same time? Please advise how I can fix this problem as I have emailed customer service many times without reply…
Can’t send, reply, or forward. everything else is working right. it’s been since about 4 days. anyone heard of a fix?
